Free PatentDownloader from ONERIVER Software and Patent Solutions for Mac OS 10.4 or later. Really nice - will download directly from the Japanese, US, and WIPO patent sites and can save as rtf or pdf. Also cute Japanese good-luck cat as the icon (paw up).

Also check out this site for patents - I have sometimes have trouble seeing the images for older patents at the US Patent & Trademark Office site, but using freepatents gets past this problem.

It is also considerably faster than the US PTO site and allows for more powerful searching techniques." (Note that pre-1976 patents are generally searchable only by date, number, and classification at the US patent office site http://www.uspto.gov, and sometimes their image viewing format is quirky.) Kirill adds: "In the future, Google plans to expand coverage to include patent applications, international patents, etc."
