Cathy was born in Hungary in 1948, received her college degree from Budapest Eötvös Loránd University, where she majored in Hungarian, English, and Scandinavian Literature and Linguistics. She studied at the University of Stockholm for a year and received her Ph.D. in Scandinavian Philology. She passed the highest level of State Language Examination in English, Swedish, and German. She studied Russian, which was mandatory in Hungary, for eight years and acquired her knowledge of Spanish while living in Panama.
Cathy taught Swedish at the Budapest Eötvös Loránd University and supplemented her income by interpreting and translating for publishers, government agencies, and businesses. Later, as an in-house language specialist at Interag, an import-export company, she handled the daily correspondence with German and English customers, translated sales and advertising material, and provided interpretation services during negotiations and symposiums. She was a liaison between the companies Interag represented in Hungary and their Hungarian partners, attending to their language needs and taking increasing responsibility for the commercial aspect of these relationships.
This latter job helped prepare her for the challenges of running a business, which she did during her many years with Accurapid. With a dedicated staff, she is constantly fine-tuning these three areas. She believes in mutual respect, appreciation, and support between bureaus and freelancers, customers, and service providers as the basis for quality as a common goal. Her joy in languages and quest for new knowledge makes the otherwise tedious tasks of translation, editing, and proofreading a labor of love.
Cathy is an ATA-certified Hungarian-English translator.
Cathy is married to Gabe Bokor, with whom she has a son, David.
