ow popular is the Translation Journal in this eighth year of its existence? Although it wouldn't be fair to compare the popularity of a site rather narrowly focused on translation and catering to professional translators with that of a general-interest site such as Google, CNN or Microsoft, we're not doing badly. As of this writing (December 18, 2004), the Translation Journal appeared in 14th place among "about 40,300,000" hits when I searched Google with the key word "translation." For the past three months, the first page of TJ received 37,755 views, and the entire accurapid.com/journal/ site had no less than 357,150 views. (Definition: A view is captured when the web server sends a page, regardless of what is on the page, to the browser window. A Web "page" in the case of a TJ article may be more than 10 pages if printed out on paper.)
During the same three-month period. 13 readers of the Translation Journal sent donations as requested amounting to a total of $341.00. This translates to a little less than 0.1 dollar cents per (Web) page viewed. Special thanks go to those generous readers who donated $20.00 or more (listed alphabetically): Per Dohler, Peter Gergay (in memory of Louis Korda), Serhiy Onoshko, Frieda Ruppaner-Lijnd, Johannes Tan, and Anne Vincent. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
